Information

How does a Drum pump work?

The Streamtek reversible Drum Storm can be attached to a closed-head drum (30/50 US Gallon, 205 Liter, or 45 Imperial gallon drum). Ensure that the drum pump is securely attached to the drum. Next, turn the knob of the Drum Storm counterclockwise. In less than 2 minutes, a high-powered vacuum fills up the drum.

The drum and the pump are now ready to suck in a myriad of liquids. Just turn the Drum Storm’s knob clockwise and the stainless steel pump will then empty the drum in 2 minutes or less.

The drum pump has been fitted with a regulator and a shut-off valve to enable users to control the flow rate of the liquid in question.

Available Options

We offer drum pump in two available options. First option is unit only. Second option is a deluxe kit which includes the unit, a 90° quick release elbow, a standpipe with 2” NPT male adapter, a 1-1/2” PVC vacuum with rubber cuffs, a 14” double blade floor squeegee, two 19” straight plastic wands and a crevice tool. Why the reversible Drum pump?

The Drum Storm drum pump was designed as an alternative to electrically powered vacuums that have many drawbacks. For instance, they wear out in no time, their motor is prone to stalling or freezing during operation, or the impellers clog when used with certain materials.

These disadvantages are conspicuous by their absence in the Streamtek reversible Drum Storm because it has no motor, impellers, or moving parts. The only movable part on the drum pump is its knob. You do not have to worry about spills or overflows because the Drum Storm comprises a built-in automatic safety feature.

However, it is important to note that the Reversible Drum Storm system must be used on a drum with a nominal wall thickness of at least 1.5mm (16 gauge) that is in good condition.

Reversible Drum Pump Air Operated

How it Works

(A) The Adjustable knob controls whether the Drum Storm unit creates a vacuum within the drum OR a pressure to empty the drum.

(B) Compressed air flows through the 1/4″ NPTM inlet and into the stainless steel drum pump unit.

(C) The liquid enters the drum through a tube assembly that is threaded into the large drum hold. A 90-degree quick release elbow connects the tube assembly to the vacuum hose!

FAQs

Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions relating to our Two-Way Liquid Drum Pump System (Drum Storm). If you need additional help with your application and/or can’t find an answer to your question, please call our factory at 1-705-770-4455 or email an Application Engineer at support@stream-tek.com.

1. Can a purchase a Reversible Drum Storm with an extended hose?

Yes. Our standard hoses are available in 10′ and 20′ lengths. Custom lengths of PVC hose are also available by special order. Since the Drum Storm is designed for use with a 10′ hose, longer hose lengths will affect performance depending on the application.

2. Why can't I use the Drum Storm on material with a low flash point?

The Drum Storm unit has the potential to produce a static charge which can spawn from the media being transported.

3. What viscosity of fluid can the Drum Storm move?

The Reversible Drum Storm can move anything from water right up to motor oil. Below are pumping rates of various viscosity’s of fluids with an 80 PSIG inlet pressure.

  • Water ~40 gallons per minute
  • Hydraulic Oil ~11 gallons per minute
  • 15W40 Motor Oil ~7 gallons per minute

4. What's the vertical lift the Drum Storm can produce?

Approximately 9-1/2 feet @ 80 PSIG inlet pressure.

5. Can the drum become over pressurized?

No. The risk of over-pressurization is eliminated by a relief valve build into the Drum Storm unit.

6. Does the Reversible Drum Storm require regular maintenance?

The Drum Storm is constructed of type 303 stainless steel and has no moving parts inside except for the adjusting knob. To clean, simply immerse the entire unit in a solvent cleaner or mild degreaser.

The Streamtek Drum Storm is a two-way pneumatic drum pump in that it only uses compressed air as it’s the power source. When compared to competitive versions, it’s far more affordable without sacrificing performance and quality.

Liquid drum pumps are by no means new to the market! Some are being constructed of steel, some aluminum with various attachments. The Streamtek Drum Storm is a complete system with everything included for most applications from using the included floor squeegee tool to suck up a liquid spill, transferring coolant, or emptying/filling a gearbox.

Still a bit confused on how the Streamtek Liquid Drum Pump (aka. Drum Storm) works? Click here for a quick flash demonstration.

Highly flammable liquids should not be used on such pneumatic systems! The Streamtek Liquid Drum Pump (Drum Storm) is safe for cooling, water, gear oils, and detergents. Typically used for liquids that have a viscosity close to water. Liquids of higher viscosity (ie. motor oil) will have a slower transfer rate.

So why the Streamtek Drum Storm? Simple. Zero Maintenance! Our Liquid Drum Pump is constructed of highly durable stainless steel to handle wide range of materials. There are no blades or propellers to wear out either! With virtually no moving parts, the Streamtek Liquid Drum Pump will last for years to come.
